When beginning with light meditation it is best to do it in the day, and even better at sunrise or sunset as you can directly relate with the best source of light there is. i.e. the sun itself. When you have done it a few times you can do it at anytime.
Starting with light meditation
Before starting with this meditation, find a quite place where you will not be disturbed. If you cannot find a quite place, then find some noise canceling earmuffs or headphones. If you can't find a place where you will not be disturbed, you can combine with breath meditation for a quick boost in energy.
Get in a comfortable position. Start with grounding. I know some people will say that they do not use grounding and it is not necessary. If it is not necessary for you then you can skip this step. But for most people it is a must.
Feel a small tendril (string) of energy leaving you and anchoring into the ground (earth). The result is that a small string of energy is connecting you and the earth. Make sure that it is connecting to the earth and not the floor of your house or something.
The meditation itself
- Feel the light from from the sun coming in a stream of bright white or golden light and entering your body through the crown chackra (or the top of your head).
- Then feel the light moving down and "filling" you up starting at your feet.
- And feel it filling you up until you reach crown chakra.
- Feel that the bright light is not just bright but it is bright because it is full of energy.
- And that now that it is in you, you are filled with this energy, and the energy is yours to do with as you wish.
- Repeat as long as you want to, each time making the light more brighter.
Alternative method
This is a cross between breath meditation and light meditation but it has helped some people who were having difficulity with light meditation so I have put it here.
The following part begins after grounding.
- Feel that the air surrounding you is bright white or golden in color, and that it is full of energy.
- As you breath in feel the light moving in with the air and moving down and filling you starting from your feet.
- As you breath out feel dark colored air moving out and dissipating.
- Continue till you are filled up till your head. (Don't worry you won't drown)
- Repeat as long as you want, each time making the light brighter.
Completing the meditation
Once you have done as much as you like to, then to conclude the meditation do the following.
- Feel the energy and light, that you have brought inside you being absorbed by your body so so that it is indistinguishable from you.
- Feel the tether of light that is anchoring you to the ground (from the grounding phase) detach from the earth and move into and feel it being absorbed by you.
- Open your eyes, look around and make sure you are not feeling dizzy or lightheaded. Not being grounded properly can cause this. If it happens just resting for a few minutes will solve it.
- Thats it.
